When should I arrive?

If possible we encourage you to arrive the evening before, Thursday 10th September, so you can settle in and be raring to go when we start the beach clean at 08:30am on Friday!

How do I get to the event?

Aberavon, Port Talbot, is easily accessible by all methods of travel!

Travel by train: The nearest train station is Port Talbot Parkway. A train from London Paddington to Port Talbot Parkway takes approximately 2 1/2 hours. The station is 2 miles from the event venue.

Travel by bus: A bus from London Victoria to Port Talbot Coach Station takes approximately 4 1/2 hours. The coach station is 2.5 miles from the venue.

Travel by car: Sat Nav –  “Best Western Aberavon Beach Hotel, Port Talbot, Swansea, SA12 6QP” will get you to the doorstep.

  • Bristol International Airport (49.3 miles)
  • Exeter Airport (61.7 miles)

Where can I stay?

Your ticket confirmation email will contain a link to book a room at the Best Western Hotel at a discounted rate. Accommodation at the hotel is limited and is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Can I extend my stay?

When should I arrive?

We recommend arriving on Thursday 10th September ready for an early start on Friday morning.

What can I expect during the day?

A formal schedule will be released closer to the event but here’s an idea of what you can expect:

08:30 – 10:30 Beach clean

10:30 – 12:30 Surf (in the actual sea)

12:30 – 14:00 Lunch and Networking

14:00 – 18:00 Sessions

20:00 – 23:00 Dinner + Environmental Panel

What about lunch and dinner?

Lunch and a 3 course dinner will be provided, as well as refreshments throughout the day. If you have any dietary requirements, please choose the appropriate option(s) when registering for your ticket.

Do I need to be a surfer?

Not at all. Come along and take your very first lesson with us! 😊🏄‍♀️🏄‍♂️

Do I need to be able to swim?

Yes! You must be able to swim at least 50m unaided. If you cannot, you can still attend Surf Force, you just can’t join the surf.

Do I need to bring a surf board?

No. Cressey’s Surf Academy will provide suitable beginner surf boards.

Do I need to bring a wetsuit?

No. Cressey’s Surf Academy will provide you with a suitable wetsuit.

Do I need to bring a towel?

No. We will give you a wonderful, brand new towel.

What if I have any fitness, medical or physical conditions, can I still participate?

What shall I expect from the surf session?

No need to be nervous; surfing is fun! Click here for a quick overview.

Are there any benefits to surfing?

Absolutely and nobody explains them better than The Wave Project charity.

Will the water be freezing cold?

No. Aberavon sea water temperatures peak in the range 14 to 18°C (57 to 64°F) mid August, so we can expect the sea to be about 15-16°C, which is lovely for surfing.

What weather should I pack for?

September is Autumn in Wales so it’s a good idea to pack a few layers to ensure you’ll be warm enough. Typically, you’ll find highest temperatures hit between 14°C and 20°C. Pack a brolly just in case!
